OPS 571 Week 1 DQ 9 -
The processes and procedures in a given organization will determine the amount of success it will realize. The customer wants performance of their product at an expected price and within an expected timeline. They are usually not concerned with the manner of production just that their parameters set forth are met or exceeded. Each department in an organization should have one common goal of pleasing the customer. In accounting the goal could be to not overcharge the customer. In the production departments it is crucial that the end product meets all performance criteria and timelines given by the customer. For the administrative departments it is important that all the "loose ends" are tied up before the customer receives the final products and invoices.
The text defines multiple production processes and how they can be organized. Each has a different benefit to an organization. The correct type and layout must be utilized in order to maximize the efficiency and quality of each process. Take a look at exhibit 6.2 of the text to visualize how process type and layout can make a difference depending on the industry type.
