ARTS 340 Week 3 DQ 1 -
Please read Alex Ross's essay "The Storm of Style" and answer the following questions. http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2006/07/24/the-storm-of-style Ross notes a number of "myths" about Mozart that have, in the last several decades, been effectively debunked. What were some of them and how do you think they might have developed in the first place? What does this revisionist view of Mozart add to our understanding of his life and music? Though in Mozart's music one rarely finds an explicit depiction of his own life, there are numerous subtle ways in which Mozart "wrote himself" into his scores. What are some of them and what do they tell us about Mozart's personality? What other things did this essay tell you about Mozart that you didn't already know?
